GEAR & GYM RULES
Know what to bring and how we do things at Tigerstyle. Read this before your first session.
HYGIENE & ETIQUETTE
Hygiene
Trim your nails
●
Fingernails and toenails. No exceptions. Long nails cause cuts and scratches to your training partners.
Clean gear every session
●
Don't re-wear sweaty rashguards or shorts. Wash everything after each session.
Fresh top for each class
●
If you're staying for multiple classes, pack a clean top for each one.
Wash before training
●
Come to the gym clean. If you're coming straight from work, a quick wash goes a long way.
No shoes on the mats
●
Ever. Use flip-flops or slides to walk to the mat area, then leave them at the edge.
Flip-flops in the bathroom
●
Never walk barefoot off the mats and then back on. This is how infections spread.
Cover open cuts or wounds
●
Tape them up or use a plaster before you train. If it can't be covered, sit that session out.
Skin conditions: stay off the mats
●
Ringworm, staph, impetigo. If in doubt, get it checked before coming in.
Remove all jewellery
●
Rings, necklaces, earrings, piercings. Take everything off before you step on the mats.
Etiquette
Be on time
●
Class starts at the scheduled time. If you're late, wait at the edge of the mat until the coach invites you on.
Respect your training partners
●
We're all here to get better. Check your ego at the door and look after each other.
Tap early, tap often
●
No shame in tapping. Trying to tough it out leads to injuries.
Listen when the coach is talking
●
If a technique is being demonstrated, stop what you're doing and pay attention.
Ask before you sit out
●
If you need to step off the mat during class, let the coach know.
Keep the space clean
●
Wipe down any equipment you use. Put things back where you found them.
Welcome new faces
●
Everyone was new once. If you see someone looking lost, help them out.
