Your First Step Onto The Mats
Everything you need to know before you walk through the door. Open the part that applies to you and skip the rest.
The Bit Everyone Worries About
Almost nobody walks into a martial arts gym feeling ready. Here is what actually happens.
"I have no experience"
Nobody does at the start. Every session has beginners in it, and classes are structured so a first timer and an experienced member can train in the same room without either one being held back.
"I'm not fit enough yet"
Fitness is what the training gives you, not what it asks for on day one. You work at your own pace, and stepping to the side of the mat for a breather is completely normal.
"Am I going to get hurt?"
You will not be thrown in at the deep end. New members start on technique and controlled partner drills, with a coach on the mats watching and correcting. Nothing happens without a coach guiding it.
"I don't know anyone there"
Most people arrive on their own. Our members range from school age to well into their forties and fifties, and they come from every background in East London. You will not be the odd one out.

Who it is for
Anyone from complete beginner to competitor. Some of our members came in having never thrown a punch, and some have been training for years. The coaching adjusts to where you actually are, not where you think you should be.
What you train
Every adult membership includes all disciplines. You are not tied to picking one on day one, so you can try the striking and the grappling and settle into whatever you keep coming back for. The full timetable shows what runs on each day and who coaches it.

Students
Students save £15 a month. Email a photo of your student ID to tigerstylemma24@gmail.com and we will send a discount code back for you to apply.
Who it is for
Children and teenagers from 6 to 15. Some parents send their child to burn off energy, some want them to be able to look after themselves, and some just want them off a screen for an hour. All of those are good reasons.
The classes
Every class starts from the basics, so no previous experience is needed for any of them. The age split means younger children are not training alongside teenagers.
Girls
Girls train with us in the kids classes up to age 10. From 11 to 15 the junior classes are boys only, so we do not currently have a place for girls in that age range. From 15 upwards they are welcome in the Women's Only programme.
When they run
Monday to Friday, 4:30pm to 6:30pm. Saturday, 10:00am to 11:55am. Check the timetable for which class runs on which day.
What it costs
The gym is closed to all males for the duration of these sessions, and the windows are fitted with privacy lining so nobody can see in from the street.
What it is
Muay Thai in a women's only environment, led by Yasmin, an active fighter and competitor. Open to women and girls aged 15 and over. If the reason you have not started before is the thought of walking into a room full of men, this is the answer to that. More disciplines are planned as the programme grows.
When it runs
Tuesday, 6:00pm to 7:00pm. Saturday, 12:15pm to 1:15pm. There is more detail on the Women's Only page.

How Your First Session Works
Four steps, and the first one is free.
-
Book a free trial class
You can try a class before paying for anything. Book it on the free trial page and we will confirm your spot.
-
Sort out your gear
We do not lend out shared equipment for hygiene reasons, so bring your own. The gear and etiquette page lists exactly what you need for each class, and there is no need to buy everything at once.
-
Turn up a little early
Come a few minutes before the start time so you can introduce yourself to the coach and tell them it is your first session. Say it out loud. Coaches keep an eye on new people and adjust the drills for you.
-
Decide afterwards, not before
Once you have trained, you will know whether it is for you. If it is, you join through the MAAT app and pick the membership that matches how often you can realistically get in.
Please note
New members pay a one off £20 joining fee, plus £10 for annual insurance. Neither is a monthly charge.
Come And Train
No contracts and no lock in. Memberships roll monthly, so you are never signing up to something you cannot step away from.
